Here is the summary of the resolutions made at the Council meeting of 23 April 2025.

  • Council observed a moment of silence as a mark of mourning and respect for the late Eileen Daniel OAM and the late Ian Baker
  • Council presented Queanbeyan Landcare with an award on behalf of Keep Australia Beautiful 2024. The award was the 2024 Tidy Towns Sustainability Awards – Biodiversity Conservation Award.
  • Council heard from three members of the public who made presentations about items on tonight’s agenda including the Bungendore pipeline, the Nellie Hamilton Centre, and traffic safety in the Karabar schools precinct
  • Council acknowledged the passing of his Holiness Pope Francis, the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church and extended its deepest condolences to the Catholic community within our region as we recognise the profound impact his passing will have and acknowledge their sorrow
  • Council will undertake a comprehensive investigation into traffic safety in the Karabar schools precinct
  • Council received information report about final project costs for the Nellie Hamilton Centre
  • Council endorsed planning proposal for housekeeping amendment to the QPRLEP 2022, will forward to Department for Gateway determination, request delegation for plan-making authority, and undertake agency consultation, public exhibition and finalisation
  • Council will introduce an electronic waste voucher system for bulky waste disposal, for a two-year trial from July 2025. For urban areas, this will be up to 2 kerbside bulky waste services or 2 self-haul vouchers and for rural areas 16 self-haul vouchers
  • Council deferred consideration of naming sports fields in Googong pending feedback from the QPRC Sports Council
  • Council approved cultural grants of $3,000 to Wildcare Queanbeyan for Mosaic Art project in Waniassa Park subject to advice about vandalism protection for the artwork; and $500 to author/illustrator Anne-Maree Hunt for printing ‘Mateship’ for Kindergarten to Grade 1 students at Queanbeyan Primary schools subject to conditions including support from schools that will host a book reading, and evidence the project will be delivered
  • Council appointed community members to the Youth Advisory Committee, amended the Terms of Reference to remove reference to number of committee members and to provide opportunity to accept new members during term of Committee by application and with Council endorsement
  • Council appointed community members to the Heritage Advisory Committee and will maintain a merit list from remaining community members should future vacancies arise over the term of Council
  • Council will donate $3,000 towards the costs incurred for the reprinting of 350 copies of the book Tales from Two Cities by Mark Butz
  • Council deferred consideration of an application from Queanbeyan and District Basketball Association for a 55% rate relief in the 2025-26 Operational Plan estimated at $5,675 until after Council has reviewed its Donations Policy
  • Council endorsed the General Manager executing the Variation Deed under the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund for the Braidwood Heritage Centre
  • Council received Investment Report for March 2025, noting return of $579,057
  • Council received information report about planning performance
  • Council received information report with a summary of road renewal and maintenance activities for the third quarter 2024-25
  • Council received information report on HSEQ activities for the quarter 1 January to 31 March 2025
  • Council receives information report about councillor workshops between 4-17 April which included Operational Plan, Update of Poplars Land Dedication, Bulky Waste Collection Options, Review of CAPEX Program, Operational Plan and Delivery Program, Draft Fees and Charges, Donations, Nellie Hamilton Centre Final Wrap-up Report, and Braidwood Heritage Centre
  • Council noted the minutes of the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee meeting on 17 March 2025
  • Council endorsed the 1 April 2025 Local Traffic Committee meeting minutes and associated recommendations
  • Council will amend its Community Meeting schedule to include Nerriga, Araluen and Captains Flat
  • Council declined a public meeting in Bungendore about the proposed Queanbeyan to Bungendore bulk water supply
  • Council received delegate report from the CRJO Board Meeting on 7 March 2025
  • Council received delegate report from the Country Mayor’s Association General Meeting on 28 March 2025
  • In closed session, Council awarded contract for the Braidwood Heritage Centre Completion Works to Trinity Quality Interiors Pty Ltd on a ‘cost plus’ basis with an estimated amount of $1,248,897
