Queanbeyan River between suspension bridge and jumping creek

QPRC in partnership with Queanbeyan Landcare and Molonglo Conservation Group have been awarded $1.94m as part of the Federal Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchments Program 2023 grant opportunity. These works will fund the rehabilitation of 2km of the Queanbeyan River corridor between the Queen’s Bridge in Queanbeyan CBD and Jumping Creek junction at the bottom of Barracks Flat Drive. The project aims to improve riparian habitat quality and connectivity for native fauna, while enhancing to corridor for public use.

Works will include:

  • Removing and controlling problematic weed species
  • Revegetating the corridor with native and riparian species
  • Community planting days, workshops, and platypus counts
  • Improving access, including the construction of two viewing platforms
  • Habitat boxes installed along river corridor

Works will be undertaken in staged sections throughout the corridor. Relevant information will be signposted, and information will be provided to nearby residents through letterbox drop as required. Sections of walking tracks and access points may be temporarily closed during working hours.
