Current work

We are currently out for quotations to produce detailed designs of the proposed traffic treatments in Jerrabomberra.

What has happened so far?

An original project scope was determined through meetings with representatives from the Jerrabomberra Residents Association, previous project consultations and other feedback from the Jerrabomberra community.

The original scope focused on Edwin Land Parkway between Jerrabomberra Circle and Numeralia Drive/Stringybark Drive intersections. The aim was to support and promote active transport and improved pedestrian safety between both sides of Jerrabomberra by slowing vehicles in the focus area. The original scope included replacing the current roundabout at Edwin Land Parkway, Numeralia Drive and Stringybark Drive with traffic signals. After investigations to inform more accurate costs for traffic signals, the estimate was $3.2m, which exceeded the project budget.

Further traffic analysis was completed (speed, crash data and pedestrian activity) together with cost estimation of the proposed traffic treatments.

We consulted with the community around the original scope and alternative traffic treatments to address vehicle speed in Jerrabomberra. Traffic signals at Edwin Land Parkway, Stringybark Drive and Numeralia Drive were not supported by the community or by the traffic modelling, which showed a roundabout would perform better.

The new proposed scope includes:

  • Safety improvements at pedestrian crossing on the eastern leg of the Edwin Land Parkway, Stringybark Drive, Numeralia Drive roundabout
  • Improved pedestrian crossing on Edwin Land Parkway near Jerrabomberra Circle by installing pedestrian fence (or similar), installing pedestrian walk signs and flashing slow down signs on approach to the existing crossing
  • Traffic treatments at various appropriate locations in Jerrabomberra, with the following strategies:
    • Separating vulnerable road users and cars by well-defined lanes in the road pavement, kerb extensions
    • Pedestrian refuge islands and kerb extensions
    • Horizontal chicane structures that narrow and separate lanes
    • Line marking to delineate road median and shoulders
    • Slow points
    • Warning signs
